I was lucky to attend this most wonderful pageant of so many different cultures coming together for 'one cause' at the weekend, as I wanted to be a part of 'The Diamond Jubilee' celebrations at an event attended by Her Majesty.

The stage backdrop was of Buckingham Palace, and there were various stands for the audience built around a quadrangle in which the horses and riders and other participants performed their truly spectacular routines. The Queen's stand was in the middle opposite the stage.

To be honest, it wasn't like being at a concert because we were so far away from the stage, and the singers would have been very small or even blurred on a photo(if you are not a good photographer!!).
The activity in the arena went at a very fast pace, as there was no interval, and a steady hand would have been needed to record this to a high enough standard to post here. It was also very cold, and we decided just to enjoy the show, knowing that it was going to be broadcast later in the year.

I did buy the souvenir book and programme, but my ex-colleague wanted to take it to show her family back in France. I shall endeavour to upload some photos I took of the arena later on today for you to get some idea. I have asked for another copy of the book and programme and hope to be able to copy that soon too!!

I have already asked around to see if they are going to make a DVD of the show, as it would be such a wonderful souvenir and maybe help some charities as well.

As for the show?...... Well,it was a gathering of nations, in very colourful national dress or military attire, performing what comes natural to them for celebrations in their respective countries. The presenters, singers and some dancers remained on stage and for a lot of the acts the singers, horses and riders were performing at the same time.

It was truly a magical night, and one of those occasions in life about which one just has to say, "I'm glad that I was there."

There were three small round stages in the arena itself, one at either end of the arena and one in front of Her Majesty's stand.

We saw so many different nations taking part from across the world to represent the countries which Her Majesty has visited during her reign. These included: the Inuits from N. Canada, Irish dancers, a wonderful Horse Whisperer from France with a small troupe of white horses of differing sizes and a couple of beige coloured foals. They were obviously from the 'Camargue' region in France, (and it took me back to my schooldays when we read 'Crin Blanc'!!), Australians .... with Rolph Harris.. and of course we all joined in with 'Waltzing Mathilda', New Zealanders, Middle East, India, South Sea Islands, American Wild West, Mexico, etc. etc. Quite a lengthy performance was given by the Cavalry, with gun carriages and some of the royal coaches taking part.

A lot of celebrities were presenters and the show was compared by Alan Titchmarsh.

The military section was 'pomp and circumstance' in abundance and it was very moving seeing the delight on the performers' faces, as they were so happy to be a part of this historic event.

I also hadn't realized how many countries have Red, White and Blue in their Flags!! It was a night of rejoicing and celebrating, but also of uniting the world in a way, and lots of people around me were quite emotional about it, as was I.

Il Divo were immaculately attired, as usual, and gave their all while singing 'Caruso' in Italian as the Italian Cavalry were riding around the arena.

At the end, the acts on stage walked in front of my stand to meet the Queen before she departed. and they recognized some people in the audience waving to them. They looked very happy to be a part of this, and rightly so!

We sang our National Anthem at the end, with gusto, and the Queen waved to the crowd as she left with the Duke of Edinburgh.

I am looking forward to seeing the recorded show in June, as we will get better shots of the performers in the arena, as well as on the stage.

As we left Home Park, where the show was staged, everyone was just happy talking to other people about this wonderful event.

There were over 500 horses of various breeds and around 1,000 people taking part in this event, and it must have taken some organizing!!! The horses had to be shipped in or flown in, then stables constructed to house them; the participants had to be housed for the period of the show as it ran from the 10 to the 13 May!!! Some celebrities took part in the other shows too. (No doubt some of these figures will be given in the recorded version.)

I hope that this helps??

Thank you Lynette for sharing your memories of this amazing Royal Event with us. My imagination went into overdrive and of course I wished I had been part of it. Like you I want to feel I have been a part of the Diamond Jubilee this year!

It was such a great honour for Il Divo to have participated in this incredible event and I am sure we all feel very proud of them - I know I do!

Thanks once again for taking the time to share it with us.

If you go to www.diamond-jubilee-pageant.com...... construction and gallery, and also to hpower.zenfolio.com, 'The Diamond Jubilee Page' can be accessed and there are some wonderful photos (professional ones!!) of the show under 'All The Queen's Horses' and 'Royal Windsor Horse Show', which will give a far better idea of the quality and scale of this production. These are in the gallery section.(60 photos), and in the video section there is a film showing the construction of the arena.

I have just glanced through the 60 photos and think that IL DIVO can be seen walking to the red carpet to be presented to Her Majesty at the end of the pageant......if I am right Carlos is first, followed by David, Sebastien and then Urs..... photos 19 and 20. (I think??)

Happy viewing!

Hi Michelle - the guys are not in the BBC concert, which is live from Buckingham Palace and Il Divo are obviously in the USA.
They took part in the ITV show "All the Queen's Horses" which is televised in the UK at 6.30pm tomorrow, Sunday 3rd.
Hope that helps!

The show was heavily edited for a tv audience, so that they could add the introductions to each section and of course all the adverts every 15 minutes or so!! We didn't see any maps, film clips etc,(at least I couldn't see the large screens from my seat!!),just the performers and stars who introduced the various acts. If this is to be seen by people worldwide then the features mentioned above will make it more interesting for the viewer. I felt that the crowd participation was missing, acts shortened and some even left out.
It was nice to see Il Divo and other performers close-up.
Imagine our view.... stage far away and full of people, lots of horses and activities in the arena, plus sometimes the smaller stages being used as well and even dancers in the arena, all performing together.

I still loved the Horse Whisperer....... Jean.....Pignon. (He had two names either Francois or Claude??)

I also think that the programme they sent me covered all the evenings' performances, rather than just the Sunday night show, which I saw.

I noted at the end that the Duke of Edinburgh was chatting to Urs, who looked delighted afterwards.

I am glad that someone has posted a video clip for others to see. Thanks.

In the Introduction (inside the programme) by Simon Brooks-Ward, Director and Producer, a few facts were given:-

Intensive Planning for this over 2 1/2 years
Circumnavigation of the globe necessary to speak to all participants
Final team chosen for planning/directing was 170
Visas, Equine quarantine regulations, dietary and transportation requirements (for horse and hu
man) had to be considered
Some of the participants travelled thousands of miles to perform and many at their own expense

Makes it all the more remarkable!
