It's rare for the guys showing on Chinese newspaper, so I tried to translate the interview into English. Not a good translation, but you still can find something new in this report. Enjoy!

Chengdu Evening News, Jan 2nd, 2012.

IL DIVO: We are romantic, so we sing romantic songs

Yesterday night, the cross-year concert of Jiangsu Satellite TV drew to a successful close. Stars from Europe and America, such as Rock Queen Avril, French singer Jean Roch, Magician Uri Geller and IL DIVO showed together in China for the first time, set off one and another climaxes. Before the performance, most successful crossover group IL DIVO (美声绅士,which means ‘vocal gentlemen’) took up the exclusive interview from Chengdu Evening News.

Like Chinese food, Beijing roast duck is the favorite

IL DIVO was created by super producer Simon Cowell, consists of American tenor David, Swiss tenor Urs, Spanish baritone Carlos and French singer Sébastien. No need of any singing, just showing up on the stage, these four good-looking men could easily capture as much female audience as they can. Talking about why different languages used in one single album, IL DIVO says, ‘Always, each song while we working on, its Roman phonetic scripts in different languages, like English, Italian, Spanish and so on were written down, then we sing it in those languages respectively, and choose the one which sounds most beautiful.’

To the very first time of their TV show in China, IL DIVO says ‘so excited’, ‘there will be hundreds of millions audience watching our performance!’ They like Chinese food, once went to a Chinese restaurant named Mr. Cao in London. ‘This is one of the most famous Chinese restaurants in London, we like to eat Beijing roast duck, and dumpling. Yesterday we ate vegetable spring roll ( a thin sheet of dough, stuffed, rolled and fried) and wonton. At the morning we even enjoyed Wuhan hot noodles with sesame paste. But we still have little time to see around, the schedule is very tight. ’

Know about Spring Festival, they have received ‘red envelope’ on Spring Festival

Although having not coming to China before, IL DIVO also know something about China. ‘We know about China’s Spring Festival. That year we performed in Jakarta, Indonesia, after the performance, a Chinese friend invited us to his house and gave each of us a red envelope, which has money in it. I was quite confused at that time, and even felt embarrassed. Now I know it’s the convention of spring festival in China, so interesting!’ Christmas holiday is an important festival for European and American stars. This time, welcoming new year in China, Sébastien confess it is the first time for him to celebrate new year separating from the families. ‘For me, new year is a big event, so I’ll try my best to call my families in France and Britain at 7 am, wish everybody a happy new year. It’s a great experience for us to celebrate new year in China, though this is not your genuine new year, I hope I can be here during Spring Festival.’ Carlos tells reporter that it’s the first time for him not having grapes while counting down of the new year. ‘In the downtown area of Madrid, there has a big clock, everyone will gather here at new year’s eve. Eat one grape every second of counting down.’

Chinese is too difficult, but they still want to try about Chinese songs

Romantic route for ever, has ILDIVO thought of trying another style? ‘We are romantic persons, so we sing romantic songs, this is our persistent music style. Sometimes we would add a bit of Latin tempo in our music, which is also for romantic elements.’ IL DIVO is quite insistent about this point. Having tried so many languages in their songs, what about Chinese? Four guys have a smile and all with one voice, ‘none of us understand Chinese, Chinese is too difficult.’ ‘Then, will any Chinese elements be added within this year’s tour in China?’ ‘There are lots of Chinese songs, but the language is too difficult to learn, so maybe we could melt with some Chinese style rhythm. In case of any appropriate Chinese song being found out, we would like to reproduce it. If you have any good recommendation, we would like to accept it.’

If they want to do anything in Chinese, I would love it if they work with Wang Lee Hom or Jay Chou.  Best should work with the best after all
