Bombastiskt – och larvigt
Men publiken älskar det flörtiga snacket
Imponerande.
Och sedan gör de likadant med ”Music”, ”Without you”, ”All by myself” och Frank Sinatras ”My way”. Ibland på spanska eller franska.
Publiken i Globen älskar deras inövade svenska meningar och flörtiga mellansnack. På scenkanten läggs blommor, brev, underbyxor, blågula lustiga hattar.

Big and cheesy
But the audience loves the flirty chit chat.
Impressive. Il Divo is a smart business. Take a bunch of old pop-songs, let four handsome guys interpet them in italian-and the money rolls in.
Simon Cowell who came up with the idea, choose a spaniard, a swiss, an amerikan and a frenchman.
They take a 1960s hit like The Moody BLues "Nights in White satin" and sing it almost like it was an opera.
And then they do the same with "Music", "Without You", "All By Myself" and Frank Sinatras "My Way". Sometimes in spanish or in french.
The audience in the Globe loves their rehearsed swedish sentences and flirty chit chats. On the edge of the stage they put flowers, underpants, blue/yellow funny hats.

im impressed by this statistic:

IN ENGLISH! (sorry for the faults!!) :)

Hot guys can sing too

After only 2 years, Il Divo (Italian for male diva) is a huge success all over the world.
Since Friday (first of june), we know why.
In a full Sportpaleis, the classical trained quartet performed a perfect sang. Also the eye got something: 4 Gods in an Armani Suit.

The figures which they can present are impressive: the debut album and Ancora were sold 13mln times. Their latest album: Siempre is going to make a monster score on its own.
Il Divo is being preceded by Natasha Marsch with her, self invented, “softopera”. A talented lady, but the audience keeps its enthusiasm for the inventors of the ‘popera’: Il Divo.
The quartet starts with ‘Nights in white satin’ and makes us an illusion less: this isn’t going to be a flashy show, but a static concert, and the most of the dynamic is coming from the orchestra.
The show is astonishing, but also sobered up. Songs like ‘Everytime I look at you’ and ‘Hero’ (stole from worldstars) are too polished. The songs die because Il Divo are doing a game: to sing for the loudest.
It goes much better as the guys are singing bit lower and more thinks about the pathos (?) of the songs.
On that moment, bestsellers like Caruso and You Raise Me Up are touching. Also My Way by Frank Sinatra and Desde El Dia are the prove that the success of Il Divo isn’t only marketing, but also skill discretion.
The best moment of the show is Musica of the album Siempre. You can get it in the shop, but presented on stage: priceless.

Heey,

This is what the newapaper from yesterday said about Il Divo:
There is also a pic in it, but i have to scan that one, so ill post that one later...

POP/KLASSIEK HHHHI Il Divo in Ahoy in Rotterdam.

Here's a translation. Any Dutchies feel free to adjust as I just did the translation in 5 minutes.....
but hope it makes a bit of sense

Rotterdam, Okay they can’t compete against the Toppers (Geer, Goor and Rene (3 Dutch singers)) in our country yet, but the Armani-hunks are well on the way to a similar mega-popularity.
Pop/Classic Il Divo in Ahoy, Rotterdam.
This based on a higher musical level and a lot less humoristic stunts (they’re referring to the Toppers, who dress up and kind of over do it).

What both showbiz phenomenon’s have in common is the use of collective covers. Where the semi-classical quartet is following the Dutch super trio is even derision (hope this is right).

The difference between the show of Il Divo from Thursday night with the one a year ago is the way the 4 singers presented their image as hunks for the mature women.

Off course they are working (and who doesn’t) much more subtle than “our” Toppers. But playing the created image of the sexy multiple choice Andrea Bocelli has become a serious part of the charm offensive.

Surrender, Urs, Carlos, David and Sebastien call at the beginning of the show, with which they make their roll of seducers pretty obvious. In the next 1.5 hour they come back to that very subtle, which gives the whole male diva act a refreshing dimension.

The chats and things reminds to where Il Divo would like to be headed someday: popera in the spirit of Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack (this is the reporters opinion I think).
Musically it’s not really refreshing also because the new CD (Siempre) mostly contains of covers in a classical coat.

Thanks Ullis! :)
Here's the translation to the article above...

Article in the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat 6.6.2007
********************************************

Hartwall Areena yesterday / The singers in Il Divo can afford luxury, but that requires tough concert tours.

Il Divo made the singers rich

The charmer quartet Il Divo now visited Finland for the fourth time, but for the first time they experienced this kind of summer flowering. All the earlier visits have been scheduled for autumn or winter. The singing group, which flew to Helsinki, travelled on Monday by car to the show in Turku and returned yesterday the same way back to the show in Hartwall Areena.

- I have always liked Helsinki, but now we also saw the most beautiful countryside with all the forests and lakes. I have many times planned, that one day I’ll drive through the Nordic countries on my motorcycle. Yesterday I decided that I will really do it, assures Il Divo’s Swiss tenor Urs Bühler.

To find a point of time for it is a completely other story, because Il Divo is in the middle of a world tour, which is associated to last years release of their album Siempre.

For Il Divo’s part a world tour really means all the continents in the world or again a whole year goes by on the road. The quartet, which was slung to world success almost three years ago, has only a couple of weeks off during a year.

- We are considered top class singers, so the pressures are hugh. In each and every concert we have to meet/respond to large expectations. At some point we will have to slow down, but for now we are doing our work at full speed.

Urs doesn’t avoid admitting, that for hard work you also get well paid.

- This is like winning the lottery for us, both mentally and financially. It’s rewarding to see, how the audience is shouting for joy. Everybody enjoys getting thanks for a job done. Financially enough money is coming in, so we don’t have to think about that.

They also can afford small extravagances.

- I buy electric guitars. I started to buy them a couple of years ago and now I have 25 pieces of them. It is true I have hardly ever time to play the guitars, Urs, who was singing in a rockband in his youth, sais annoyed.

Sorry for the several mistakes    I hope its understandable enough

From Devo to Il Divo

The quartet of operistic flare came it winning despite coinciding again with another soccer final date

The Poker of voices of Il Divo, in Saint Jodi
Picture: RICARD CUGAT LUIS TROQUEL
BARCELONA

Montjuic gives a lot of itself. Only 4 hours before the Sónar presented a few miles away the archeology retro futuristic of the Americans Devo (that In English is pronounced divo). Although hardly no one would mistake concerts.

The second visit of Il Divo to Barcelona opened with an accidental taste if déjà vu. If 13 months ago the concert was the same day with the final of the Champions League, last Sunday it was with the final of the Spanish soccer league. Apparently Il Divo and Barça are incompatible.

This time the Palau Saint Jordi was in its 2/3 of capacity, with the plateau (full of chairs) as a huge “platea”. Also the stage was really different. Form the greco-roman cardboard stone to the comfortable elegance of a luxury casino. In the ground, 5 big circular platforms, like full moons, in different levels: one for each divo and one for the orchestra.

After the instrumental overture a huge curtain dropped and they appeared, perfectly dressed, singing Nights in white satin. The first rows were full of Italian flags, even though, despite their “battle name”, Il Divo is a British creation formed by a Spanish, a French, an American and a Swiss (a baritone, a pop singer and 2 tenors). Educated voices and charming poses. Loving ovations and sassy introductions ma non troppo “this song is dedicated to 4 really special women…” screams… “our mothers”… smiles. Sighs and containment until, in the end, the public rose from their seats to run to the front of the stage. And after the delirium of Regresa a mi they had to sing Somewhere with one hand holding the microphone and the other one signing autographs, while two tubes threw white paper petals; like the rain of nuptial rice.

There are people that says what they do is an attack to bel canto, when the reality is that this has nothing to do with opera. In the past, popular music was sung with lyrical voices; whether if they were Mexican, Napolitan songs or musical pieces. No, Il Divo does not offer any devaluation of “cult music”, but a wide display of musical archeology up to date. Deep down, not so far from Devo.

Article about last weeks Vienna Concert - printed on the 15th June:

Posted Image

And the translation:

Pop- Romance in classical garment

It rained red roses in the Vienna Stadthalle: The Popquartet “Il Divo” made the mainly female fans to languish.

Crossover. Men were scarce articles yesterday in the Vienna Stadthalle. From all over Austria arrived the mainly female Fans of the Crossover-Quartet Il Divo. At half past 8 on the pot entered the strings- and percussion-biased Orchestra a circular platform and started playing a Medley introducing the coming Melodies. A white, cylindrical fabric canopy enveloped a second, higher Platform – with the last accord of the intro fell the cover and released the 4 favourite – Sons-in-law, who were already now greeted cheeringly by their fans.

Pop-Romance. Notte di Luce, the Il Divo-Version of the Classic Nights in White Satin, opened the concert and made clear what the ongoing evening would offer: melodic popsongs in romantic classical garment. After the opening song the 4 singers of 4 nations greeted their Viennese audience. Home field advantage for the Swiss Urs Bühler (he actually did write Buhler) who is the only one of the multiculti group speaking German as mother tongue.
The four singers were from the 6th song Everytime I look at you onwards in turns with languishing fans projected onto a videowall. Already at that point the first roses appeared from female fans.

Rough translation

Il Divo pleases Mexico

Mexico likes the educated voices of Il Divo and evidently so did the women of All ages that overfilled the National Audience

CITY OF MEXICO, Mexico, April 2, 2007 - Alone they came to do two performances in the Audiotorio National of City of Mexico, both concerts booked-up since their announcement almost two months ago. Impossible to obtain tickets that for the first section cost around thousand Mexican 400 pesos.

A little after 8:30 pm I begin watching the performance. A pleasing surprise to see the public waiting for the 4 members of Il Divo, the matter is that the surprise increased and increased.

The stage was sober, in dark colour and with coloured lights discreetly lit according to the harmony. The orchestra abreast, they were on the righthand side and the musicians and guitarists on the left so that for moments itself it was not possible to appreciate the songs.

Truly that every possible to have imagined less than the impact that Il Divo caused in Mexico serious as of the type of gallant and not of singers. The women approached to give them cards, flowers, soft toys … mocking the security located below the stage.

I arrive a moment in which men also whirled with all and the guards, like the concerts of artists are observed as Ricky Martin, to the feet of Il Divo. It was of be not believed, and if I tapeworm doubts they remained impressed with the reaction of the assistants, by the quality and by the quantity of flirtings they received.

David Miller, Carlos Marin, Sebastien Izambard and Urs Buhler they were been pleased and with many desires to return to our pies. And the assistant also we be satisfied with the little thing that we could listen them but happy of confirming the talent of Il Divo.

You want that we speak of a theme especially?
