Due to a techie problem (auto-prune kicked in) the original thread for David's choice for the Il Divo Music Club was lost so here it is again

'La Boheme has a special place in all of Il Divo's hearts, but especially mine as I played the part of Rodolfo in Baz Luhrman's production on Broadway - he is the director behind movies like William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom, so you can imagine what a beautiful production it was.
'La Boheme is an amazing work that has always been loved by critics and the public. You should definitely check out the piece "Che Gelida Manina" which is the first aria Rodolfo sings but which comes back again and again throughout the opera. So simple and so beautiful.
'It's an inspirational work: a tragedy about these bohemians living in Paris, it's also the basis of the musical, Rent - something it might be fun for you to check out as well.' - David

La Boheme played three hours from where I live, and when I saw the recommendation, my Mom, brother and I drove up for the evening. It was an amazing experience. It was the first opera I had been to. Definently a great one for those of us with 'soft' opera ears. The soaring arias, and incredible duets and ensembles. Very Cool!!!! And not only is it a great love story, It is really funny.

Okay, so I mentioned before the original thread disappeared that I was becoming interested in La Boheme... hey! if David recommends it! if David was part of it! lol...

well last night as I was walking around the Barnes and Noble music section ( I like downloads, really I do, but theres something about having your hands on the CD... *shrug* ) I was just browsing as usual when WHAMO! I ran into the La Boheme CD. I swear it was like it was sitting there WAITING for me. I mean, it wasn't even shelved! it was lying there face-up in the country music section!!!
(note: I don't listen to country, not that I have anything against it.. just not really my style, as I mentioned before, I browse and sometimes pick up things outside of my more typical genres if it sounds good  )

anyway, I thought about hunting for the DVD, but I figured I'd never listen to the CD if I bought them both.

SO! I bought it and tried listening to it while I was studying... but my mind kept drifting toward the music. I don't know what they're saying because I umm... don't speak Italian and can't read the translations from the insert while I study... ( I admit though, I did peek a couple of times.   I just HAD to know what was going on! :) )

It's funny though, because at one point I had to scramble for the insert to confirm that, 'OMG THAT IS DAVID SINGING!!!' :) :) :)

As soon as the semester is over I'm going to look for the DVD...

*edit*
ACK! I just reread David's recommendation!
I LOVED Che Gelida Menina!!! When I listened to it, it actually sounded familiar to me... I wonder if/where I've heard it before...

I love Puccini's music and 'La Bohemia' is my favourite opera.
'Che Gelida Manina' is a very beautiful aria, though David is not
singing it but Alfred Boe, who also is a awesome tenor.

David is singing 'Marcello, Finalmente' and Dunque: 'E proprio Finita!'

Ahhh I loooovveeee La Boheme! I first heard some of La Boheme when I was a lilttle kid. (I grew up in opera houses, under dressing room tables, in makeup trailers, wherever my momma took me while she performed, hahaha) I think one of the greatest points in the opera is about 2 minutes into Mimi's first aria where she introduces herself to Rodolfo. Si, mi chiamano, Mimi. When the music picks up and she says, "The first kiss of April is mine!" It's pretty awesome. I have several recordings and my favorite is the La Boheme on Broadway with our David, and I had it BEFORE I knew he was in Il Divo!
Well, have a greeeeat day.

I'm seriously loving "O Mimi tu piu non torni", and would love to hear ID record this. :) :) :)
And I can't remember the song name, but the one where it ends on the duet singing "l'amour" very high (that's got to be a high G for the girl!) gives me goosebumps every time.
Those are my favorites but I've been listening to it over and over, and the longer I listen the better it gets.
Oh, has anyone seen the Australian Opera DVD of the live show?
It's got David Hobson in it, and it's STUNNING.

I have the DVD, it's awesome, I agree! I love the idea of setting it in 1957 instead of 1847, the same thing they did with the Broadway performances.

how do you say "I am such a spaz" in Italian?

hehe.

I said in my last post that I was going to wait til the semester was over to see La Boheme because I wanted the time to be able to take the time to actually appreciate it...
well, I did wait til the semester was over. the spaz part is that I waited too long and now the fall semester has begun  ... and I just bought La Boheme (David Hobson version). :)

It arrived yesterday but I didn't get a chance to see it until I watched the first act today and I loved it!! I wasn't sure I would but I did!!! I mean, don't you wish you could sing like that!?!??!?!! hehe. I do.

Well, now I've become short on time again with classes and studying. lol. I'll catch Act II tomorrow... I'll probably watch Act I again...
Don't know yet if I'll be able to squeeze it all in.

Che Gelida Manina was AMAZING! But was really surprised at liking Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi so much! I don't normally enjoy sopranos because of my insane envy and jealousy issues. :) :) :) but Cheryl Barker is to die for! well.. I liked her anyway. :D

I kind of wonder if its not uncomfortable singing like that so close to someone else though. I mean, "look! I can see all the way into the back of your mouth!" is it, like, super loud??

oh! and of course, watching it, you can totally see David Miller as Rodolfo. 8)
hehe. oh Daviepoo! :D

Hey! I'm so glad you got a copy! Isn't it amazing? When you get a chance to watch Act II, let us know what you thought of it!

And yes, it is quite loud when you have to sing like that. Hahah, have a great day!! -Paige

I was able to borrow it from the library, and I can tell you, Deen, you're going to love it! 8) 8) 8)
I'd have to rewatch it now that I know which songs are my favorites...
(O, soave fanciulla... that last "amour"... <sigh> and O Mimi tu piu non torni... so love to hear OUR David sing that! :) )

I love Opera and Puccini is my favorite composer. My favorite opera is Turandot, but La Boheme comes right after that.

I have the CD and a video from The MET production (Carreras - my favorite tenor - as Rodolfo).

The story is quite tragic, as almost all opera's. The musical RENT is a modern version of La Boheme.

Rodolfo is a poet who shares a very poor flat with other artists and falls for his neighbor Mimi (her name is Lucia, actually).

I`ve never heard David singing opera, so I cannot say anything about his performance.

I suggest to those who have never heard or watched an opera, to read about the story beforehand.
